The 8th Pad Yatra saw a surge in number of participants. Majority of the 1800 yatris were from Ladakh, joined by international participants, and led by His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa and his spiritual entourage. The Pad Yatra kicked off below the iconic Chemdray Monastery, continued towards Tathok Monastery, followed by the famed Khespang retreat center, before ascending to Igoo Tso, the mysterious prediction lake located at 5,400m above sea level.
It is the only prediction lake in Ladakh, India. It is believed that after Guru Padmasabhava subdued a demonness, he stamped his walking stick on the ground and created a small lake. While trekking up to Igoo Tso, atop a mountain, one can find a celestial palace complete with washroom, retreat room, kitchen and bedroom, constructed by Dakinis for the great Drukpa yogi Gyalwa Gotsangpa, one of the two most illustrious disciples of the first Gyalwang Drukpa. Igoo is also a place blessed by Guru Padmasambhava and many enlightened yogis.
